Bobi, the world’s oldest dog who made it into the Guinness Book of World Records, has died at the age of 31.
Guinness World Records reported that Bobi, who resided with his owners in a rural village in Portugal, died over the weekend.
Bobi, a purebred farm and watchdog breed known in Portugal as the Rafeiro do Alentejo, lived his entire life at his home 93 miles north of Lisbon with owner Leonel Costa and his family.
Bobi was born May 11, 1992, according to Guinness World Records, and was crowned “world’s oldest living dog” and “world’s oldest dog ever” in February.
According to Guinness, the average lifespan for a dog of Bobi’s breed is 12 to 14 years.
Costa described Bobi as “very sociable.” He “spent most of his time in the backyard with his feline friends.”
Bobi also had several fans worldwide, especially over 100 people who attended his 31st birthday party.
The record-breaking dog’s veterinarian, Dr. Karen Becker, said in a Facebook post, “Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him.”
